Brain Dump

Note to men: it’s either suspenders or a belt. Not both.

It is both counter productive and bad public policy to have words that are either acceptable or catastrophically unacceptable, depending on the race of the speaker.

Military service should be a mandatory 3 year tour between high school and college. Not only will our young people be better prepared, mature, and disciplined when they enter college, with a better developed sense of what they may wish to study, but we’ll also have a highly trained civilian population much more capable of addressing domestic violence and terrorism. I can’t help but think that if the students at Virginia Tech were armed and experienced they wouldn’t have needed to wait for the police to deal with an unbalanced shooter in their midst. Additionally there would be the added benefit of ensuring more people have a vested interest in using our military sparingly and intentionally. Endless, fruitless wars that have little impact at home just don’t provide enough impetus to end conflict.

Poor Britain Is that our fate? Ever decreasing relevance following a period of extraordinary impact?

TSA found a swiss army knife on a middle aged woman as I was going through security. Though the likelihood of her being a threat was low, she had a knife, and they found it…

How much longer will our elders cling to the old models, the old way of doing things? While Record Execs push through laws to limit ingenuity and change, while politicians cleave to overwhelming force as a tool for change, the world around them has shifted. Polar bears recognize their ice is shrinking, but our leaders don’t.

Speaking of which, did you know that 70% of our kept-bee populations have disappeared? May have something to do with cell phones and electromagnetic fields.... Anyone want a post on how quickly 90% of humanity dies if bees cease their pollination routine?

Barack Obama has an African father and American mother, and is an American citizen. Yet African-Americans haven’t embraced him as “one of their own.”

Granted, I woke up with a migraine. But that post hurt. Let me sift through it slowly, but really? You think the students should have been armed? Can you explain how armed citizens would be good for us? I see your point about serving in the military (Isn't that how Isreal works?) but would that mean we would then walk around armed? I don't follow.

Are you still in Palm Springs? How can you be that cranky? Maybe warm climate vacations really aren't your thing.

Happy Birthday!

Dude don't tell me you went out on the town in Palm Springs wearing both suspenders and a belt.

Also a note to men: The color of your belt needs to match the color of your shoes.

Happy Birthday Dan! Even though you messed up our surprise party!

We love you!

You're too young to be that curmudgeonly, Dan!

The answer is fewer guns, not more guns.

OTOH I can't disagree w/ a mandated period of public service for everyone. NOT the military for everyone, but service.

So teaching, police, fire, etc -- positions that are underpaid b/c they are "public service" jobs -- would also qualify.

If it's a position that requires some education and training people could have their service deferred till after the training (see list above... those three positions all require post-high-school education).

Check last week's Newsweek for some hard numbers on how number of guns equates to number of murders....

The Wild West mentality of this country is long overdue for change, dammit!

Check on the belt suspender thing. Though I don't own suspenders...yet.
The manditory time for the military or the like - sure - it would whip us all into shape! Oh, happy birthday...belated.
